tell the recruiter you need them to meet your salary expectation. $6/hr should not be a big deal for them as long as the client likes you.

It's very often that a contractor job would go thru an agency instead of direct, like your case.

Personally I will not give up my full time job to make the same money as a contractor, no matter how much I like the new company.
