He is actaully nice. if I were you, I will talk with him one more time.
a. thank him first and ask if there is any possiblity that you can improve yourself and stay.
b. if he says no. You just tell him that you will start to look for a job and ask him give you more time.
don't even think HR will do the right thing. they are their to protect company not you.
