your career is your business, what your manager can do is to give you opportunities if he likes.
I would suggest you write down
what position do you want to be
what skills do you need for this position
if you have the skills, put them as your strength (the more, the better)
if you do not have the skills, put them as the area you want to improve (1, or 2 at maximum)
of course, all these are for "greater good" - your group or the company.
