Thank you very much for the suggestion from two of you.
He does not want to get rid of me and he is only using me as an excuse to ask extra resources from his boss. He can not tell his boss that the reason we have so much work to do is that he is not doing anything.
There a couple of reason why he is still here. First, he is very knowledgeable and he added lots of value in the past. However, he told me that he does not want to do this and educate other people any more, he wants to learn something new. So this is why he is busy with his learning every day, not focusing on any projects undergoing. Second, his boss is not a subject expert on what our team is responsible for (We are from Finance, his boss is from business development) and can be easily deceived.
The best outcome I want is that his boss knows what is going on and I am not losing my job because of the lie from my boss. Our company is going through restructure now, some people got laid off. I guess that these decisions are made soly based on the feedback from their reporting managers. HR would not do a comprensive review and ask feedback from different people before laying off these employees during the restructure period. My boss also told me that all other people said does not count, only his words should be countable because only he knows me best. However, we do not even work closely because he does not have time for me and he locks his door all the time and buries himself in his self-learning.
