Really good posting. I would add:
1) Flighting back in public (email list or meetings) may not necesaily the best approach unless you are really good at sharp argument.
2) My expereince is that it sometimes better to do that privately in one-to-one meeting. Make it more formal by making an appointment with the person you want to talk to.
3) Prepare something to say and preactice. Most people would back off when you show that you are serious.
