Senior Engineer Vs Senior Engineer Manager

My LG is a gifted and senior software engineer. Now he is negotiating relocation to China Beijing. The position offered is Senior Engineer Manager. I support him wherever he works. However I ask him for considering the career developemnt of next coming 5 or 10 years. I never had opinion of senior engineer or manager, but I would expect him to have deep thinking on his interest. Although macro – micro economy situation, industry trend, age etc. has predictable influence, work is for life, rather life is for work.
