Background check is a general concept. It actually includes following aspects:
1. Criminal Check based on your addresses
2. Employment verification based on your employment history
3. Reference check based your reference contacts
4. Drug test based on your biological sample
Education Verification is ever rare. Probably it is your first job. Out- U.S. check makes sense for criminal and education because information can be obtained through public fair service. Employment history outside U.S. is difficult to verify. So, some experienced recruiters may not touch such resumes. Also, first 2 checks are limited certain years up to hiring company.
After your background check is done, please share the information of what you find, like "how" and "What". It is still a blackbox for me.
