Help on background check

I changed my major to apply for a particular position. Now background check company asks me to supply my degree certificate (I got my degree in China) to get my student records. Is the background check going to contact the university in China and verify my degree in detail? I know it is not good to lie. But I really want to get the job. Thanks in advance to your advice and experience.
