The HR called to extend me an offer this morning. When we spoke, I brought up the following three items:
* loss of my PTO (paid time ff)for 10 days
* Loss of bonus for CY2010. According to the new company's policy, I am not eligible for CY2010 bonus since I will join the company after 10/1.
* I need to pay back the GC expense about $12,000
HR called me back with a revised offer this afternoon. Act very quickly.
Total increase (base + bonus): 18.7%
Some equity reward (stock option): eligible, but HR said that she couldn't release the benchmark number before I join the company.
Sign on bonus: $15,000 to compensate for part of my PTO and CY2010 loss
No compensation for GC expense
I am planning to write an e-mail for a counter offer regarding the green card.
Per the contract with my current employer, I need to pay back about $13,000 related to my GC sponsorship if I leave the company within the next two years after my GC attainment. I would really appreciate xxx can help me out with this situation by sharing the cost with me: offering me additional $10,000 sign on bonus or pay directly to my current employer if they ask me to pay back the GC expense.
Is it possible to get total $25,000 sign on bonus? Am I too greedy? Bottom line is that I don't want to break the deal.
Can you advice the best approach? Please remember, I haven't consider the loss of ER 401k match for the first year since the new company will not have ER 401k match until the second year. Also, I am not fully compensated for the bonus and the PTO loss. With that said, I will probably not gain anything for the first year. Plus, pay back the green card if my new employer will not help me out.
Thanks.
