Never disclose the salary info at the beginning og the process.

If the number you gave is too low, you don't have any chances to get it higher. If the number is too high, you will not get hired.

If they ask you this question, you should ask " What is the salary range for this position?" Also, you will never give a definite number and always gaive a range. Emphasize the whole package not just base salary. You can not lie on base salary. But you can say you have other bonus, stock option etc. You can make this number a little bigger if you want.

Genearally the negotiation is started when you have the offer on hand.
