Could it be that they know you are very capable, but somehow can not fully trust you?
If your big boss is into those team building crap, maybe you should read the book "5 Dysfunctions of a Team". At least you know what they are looking for and adjust yourself accordingly. It was quite an interesting read for me, although I didn't really believe it could be easily achieved.
