1)The unemployment rate in the state you reside.
Currently, there are four extensions(in some states, i.e. Calif.) after six month regular UI benefit. However, each extension will have deadline to file and the deadline is determined by the
new law. Normally, you don't need to file extension by yourself(EDD will do it for you automatically). Since each extension needs to be filed after the prior benefit is exhausted, if you file extension out of law allowed filing period, you are out of luck. no matter whether or not you have collected any extension
2)For now, the current legislation makes Sunday, March 28, 2010, the deadline for filing a first federal extension of benefits, once a regular UI claim runs out.
3)The Senate passed the bill to extend UI filing to the end of 2010, but it needs House to pass the same bill and Obama signs it into law, or anybody after 3/28 will not be able to file any extension
