Got dinged today for an internal manager position after serveral rounds of interview.
Here are the details:
Applied for this position six weeks ago. Passed first round with HR. Second round with hiring director for 1 and half hours. Felt darn good. Talked to a key member of executive committee, which will make final decision on the hire, over phone. Still felt good. :) Then got a phone call today from the director telling me they decided to move forward with other candidates...darn!
When asked about my weakness, he said there in no obvious weakness. It is just that the other two candidates are way more experienced - director and VP from major corporate. And, they are willing to take a huge pay cut to get this job. Man, this really shocked me. Apparently these guys are desperate. My take is the current job market is very very tough, esp. for MGMT position, even at manager level.
I don't know if this is an isolate case or it is the same everywhere. I'd really appreciate if you can share your view on this as I'm considering getting a manager job this year. If the competion is so severe across board, I may need reconsider my timing on this.
So what do you think?
What's your take on the current job market?
