If your number is higher than his pay, he might feel bad. if that's the case and u r hired, he may think u r better paid than him. Basically I think he asked a wrong question and u answered a wrong question.

Anyway, this happened already so hopefully they can give u the agreed number if they hire u. Maybe we are all wrong, who knows.
