我給你們講個真實的故事。我的一個年紀大的朋友是一家１千人以上的上市公司的技術部director， 分管3個division. 他的old老板A(CTO:chief technology officer)要退休。理所當然他想接下這個位置。可是，公司在外招了一個人來fill this CTO position. my friend felt not well about that.

這個新的CTO(we call him B)進來當然是要reorganize the department.當然，我朋友理所當然從management的位置上被reorganize 掉了， 甚至幾乎要let my friend go.（The CTO said some mean words to him). 我朋友實際上也知道自己得走了。這個時候,一個跟我朋友作了很多年同事的，來頂替我朋友的C堅決要求我朋友留在他的group...（直到現在我朋友都不sure為了什麽A頂著壓力要把他留下）。這已經是去年的事了。。

由於經雞危機， 公司也作了3次大的laid-off, 可是我朋友還是巍然不動。 公司了很多人很驚奇， 都覺得他是最應該被laid off的了。我也這麽覺得。 因為我朋友作了多年的管理工作，具體的細節技術都忘到腦後了。其實，經過一年的適應，我朋友實際上已經喜歡上了這樣作employee的輕鬆日子。

可是上星期， 他被叫到CTO辦公室：他被promoted到C的位置， C被laid off. 我朋友幾乎不敢相信， 他甚至不願接受這個位置。 可是CTO說：如果你不接受這個位置， 你就被laid off....我朋友隻好接受， 可是他無法麵對C..

從中,我學到的是：

1 任何時候都不要說你老板的壞話，即使他是錯的或他要退休或他處於不利的局麵。我這個朋友對他的以退休的CTO boss 非常的忠誠。即便後來他在C手下工作。 C和我朋友曾經一起為這個退休的CTO工作。 因為一個project的分歧，A選擇了我朋友的意見， C跟我朋友意見不一致， 主動辭職。

2.處事說話永遠從公司的利益出發， 不針對人。新的CTO在處理很多技術問題時， 碰到很多問題， 我朋友不計前嫌，盡全力幫他， make him look good in front of CEO, etc.我朋友被降職位後，曾經跟我說：其實跟B比起來， 他比我更聰明。 He is the right person to sit in the CTO position.

３。為你老板工作時， 如果你可以的話， 一定要try your best to Make ur boss look good in his job/position.

4. 不要背後說你”敵人“的壞話， 即便他曾經是那個向CTO大小報告使你下台的小人。我朋友作director時跟他的peer D關係不是很好。這個新的CTO上任後， D盡他最大之能事來貶低我朋友，把所有責任推向我朋友。 當我朋友降職位後，新的CTO問我朋友對D的看法。 我朋友說： 我不想在D背後說他。 我想告訴你我對他的看法when D is here.

我覺得我也很smart. 就在3星期前， 我還對我朋友說：我覺得你終究會被promoted to management.. 我朋友還說：impossible! See, now, he is in teh managemetn position again;)
