Be truthful, unless you are very good in covering yourself

You should simply tell them that you have been recently laid off but be prepared with a good answer as the interviewer would definitely want to know the reason why you were laid off. There is a difference of of the very few being laid off and a mass layoff involving hundreds where performance is not a key factor.
