Camry V6 and Lexus ES350 both share the same 268HP engine. Camry V6 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. From the 911 tape the caller talked to the operator much longer than 6 seconds before the car finally crashed at a speed of 120 mph. So why the car speed did not accelerates from 65 mph to 120 mph in a few seconds? It must be because the driver applied the brake to slow it down. But once it is slowed the driver did something other things. It is possible the driver noticed the floor mat is over the gas pedal. He tried to relieve the gas pedal. He did this by lifting the foot from the brake pedal. Because he noticed that the floor mat is pressed on gas pedal because he is stepping on the brake. But as soon as he lift the foot from the brake the car accelerates again. He stepped on the brake again. He could have done this several times. But a brake gets heated up when you use it. eventually the brake gets so hot that it loses the friction. That is when you hear the call said the brake is not functioning.
