看新聞學英語

不隻是看英文新聞能學英語，看中文新聞也能，比如最近城裏的一條新聞，《10號高速無限期關閉！州長宣布洛杉磯進緊急狀態》。

新聞裏講，“由於周六淩晨的一場大火，險些將10號高速的路橋燒塌，10號高速將無限期關閉。”

中文裏的大火，在英文裏有好幾個說法，援引的推特推文中，提到：
“due to a devastating fire”

這裏的 devastating 是摧毀性的意思。另外CBS新聞裏用的詞是 destructive，破壞性的。
“A destructive storage yard fire”

同樣在CBS的新聞裏，指出，A destructive storage yard fire has forced the indefinite closure of Los Angeles' I-10 freeway.

這裏，indefinite 是不明確的意思，並不是 infinite 無限期。文章標題上來就說“10號高速無限期關閉！” 要麽是混淆了兩個詞的意思，要麽就是危言聳聽，標題黨。畢竟文章裏也提到了，“無法透露什麽時候開放”， “closed until further notice”，甚至有個地方還提到評估的具體數字，“這可能需要一周、一個月或者更長的時間”，總而言之，絕對不是無限期的。
