When SongHua river started to thaw in mid-April, people gathered in the bank of river, watching big chunks of ice crack and drift in the dark green waters. A teenage boy jumped on the floating ice with a basket in hand,and picked up pike, vendace, carp, baby sturgeon, and catfish killed by the ice washed down in the spring flood. The steam boat still on the dock honked the horns again and again.
