據《美聯社》報導，哈欽森當時帶著米勒坐上高爾夫球車，駛離兩人舉辦婚禮的會場，孰料，酒醉女駕駛科莫羅斯基（Jamie Lee Komoroski）在速限40公裏的道路上開到時速104公裏，撞擊高爾夫球車導致米勒當場死亡。
哈欽森雖然在車禍中生還，但也腦部受傷、多處骨折。哈欽森後續提出的訴訟指稱，科莫羅斯基當晚在南卡州富麗海灘（Folly Beach）多間酒吧喝到爛醉，接著就開著租來的豐田Camry上路，肇事後血液酒精濃度超過法定上限的3倍。
為此，哈欽森控告接待過科莫羅斯基的酒吧The Drop In Bar & Deli、Crab Shack、Snapper Jacks，再加上汽車保險和租車業者的賠償，哈欽森獲得了130萬美元和解金，但還要扣掉律師費和訴訟費，最終為86萬3300美元，法官楊恩（Roger Young）近日批準和解。
至於肇事的科莫羅斯基，被指控酒駕致死、過失殺人、酒駕導致他人重傷的重罪，目前已交保在外，等待法院開庭審理。
