Wise words from Prof. Jeffery Sachs on the so-called China’s “excess capacity”:
1⃣The US approach to China is based on a mix of arrogance, nastiness and naivete. Arrogance in that the US runs the world. Nastiness in that the US is actively out to hinder China’s progress. Naivete in believing that the rest of the world will actually subscribe to the propaganda.
2⃣China does not have an “excess capacity”; it is producing what the world actually urgently needs.
3⃣America’s “grand strategy” is not peace, sustainable development or wellbeing but hegemony.
4⃣The US should be cooperating with China, not fighting it. It should replace its destructive and self-destructive machinations for hegemony with win-win policy.

Some in the West have been touting China’s “overcapacity” in the new energy industry as a threat. This is a new narrative trap targeting China and a fallacy that distorts and/or ignores some key facts:
1⃣China’s competitive edge in new energy is achieved not through subsidies, but for good reasons:
✅early strategic planning & persistent R&D input,
✅sophisticated industrial & supply chains,
✅a supersize domestic market,
✅hardworking workforce & numerous enterprising businesses, and
✅a strong sense of responsibility for the future of the Earth.

2⃣Cross-border trade happens only when there is surplus. In that sense, all exports are the result of overcapacity -- This is a basic principle in trade.
The US is the world’s largest exporter of agricultural produce, natural gas, and many other products. Why doesn’t it ever apply the same criterion for overcapacity to itself? What a double standard!

3⃣BTW, isn’t it a good thing to have an “overcapacity” of green energy in a world struggling to meet the Paris Agreement goals?
The sad truth is we do not have a surplus but a serious shortage of green capacity globally.

4⃣Trade refers to the voluntary exchange of goods or services between economic actors. China does not force anyone to trade with it, and all its international trade is conducted according to market rules.
But some in the West often force other countries to open their market in the name of “free and fair competition”. What they really want is their permanent dominance of the market. And when their monopoly is in peril, they would just dump the trading principles without hesitation. How sarcastic!

1)引用哥大教授Jeffrey Sachs的話,但卻將別人名字拚錯,就這樣還是中國top級別外交官
2)如果北大清華教授站出來,像Sachs批評美國政府傲慢、惡意和幼稚,結果會是什麽?
