此次錢文琦拍攝的《金瓶梅》被定為三級，也既是“未成年觀眾不能入場觀看”。由於一開始就直指情色，找來日本三位AV女優上原kaera、若菜光、早川瀨裏奈過來主演，因此在尺度上並無遮遮掩掩，被香港電檢定為三級是預料之中的事。

錢文琦之前是王晶的副導演，曾拍攝過《玉女心經》、《蜜桃成熟時2、3》、《南洋十大邪術》等電影。由於近年香港情色影片低迷，脫星紛紛上岸，能有市場的新人已經是屈指可數。於是，眾多香港製片紛紛把眼光瞄準臨海的日本。

《金瓶梅》海報其中一句廣告語是：“大開色戒”，這當然是因李安的《色戒》火爆而起，但以這部電影走的路子，比《色戒》鏡頭大膽暴露是不在話下的事。在此片扮演小尼姑的若菜光就犧牲頗大，把一頭秀發給剃掉，完全“裸體”。
