陳紅，1968年生於江西省的信江之濱，父母是高級知識分子，自幼受好良好的家庭教育，她從小就顯示出了藝術天才，從小學開始她就是學校的文藝骨幹，高中時擔任了校學生會的文藝部長。1986年陳紅考入了上海戲劇學院表演係，畢業後分配到北京青年藝術劇院。
陳紅第一次走上銀幕是17歲，在影片《這裏有泉水》中扮演角色。畢業後在電影《紅樓夢四部》、《紅樓夢五部》、《紅樓夢六部》中扮演紫娟，在《都市刑警》中扮演顧影，《傣女之戀》中飾艾擺。
近幾年，陳紅涉足眾多電影同時也拍攝了大量電視劇，她在電影《你好，太平洋》、《在那遙遠的地方》、《霧宅》中扮演主要角色。陳紅天生麗質，她的扮相非常漂亮，古裝的陳紅常常透出幾分“洋氣”，而時裝的陳紅又含有幾許古典。她既然扮演潑辣能幹的姑娘《香香鬧油坊》中的香香，又能扮演柔弱的讓人憐惜的女性，如《征服者》。
陳紅是與港台合作頗多的一位大陸演員，她多次在瓊瑤的片子中演繹著恩恩怨怨如《青青河邊草》(電視劇)、《梅花三弄》。
陳紅演戲有自己的方法，她喜歡按自己的方式、自己的心願去做事情，並且努力發揮自己的長處不斷發展。
