1. 更改行宮設計 Changing the Design of Palace
依據施工安排，工地先做了通風道防盜牆的破壞實驗。塵香發現防盜牆和行宮的防盜地麵非常堅固；為了方便挖洞，他決定再次更改設計，把進氣口移到行宮北麵的院牆旁邊。
According to the construction schedule, a destruction experiment was first conducted on the ventilation duct anti-theft wall at the construction site. Dust-scent discovered that the anti-theft walls and the palace's anti-theft ground were very sturdy; to make it easier to dig a hole, he decided to change the design again and move the air intakes to the side of the north courtyard wall of the palace.
用自己的房產做抵押，塵香在縣銀行得到了貸款。然後他用全部的錢去到那兩個縣政府官員買防盜牆材料的生產商，買回了大量的防盜牆材料。他把那建築材料存放到了離家不遠處的一個倉庫。一天，那兩個政府監理去遠處購買裝在雷鋒塔上的避雷針去了。塵香就開始按照他的方案建造備用進氣道的防盜牆了。
Using his property as collateral, Dust-scent obtained a loan from the county bank. He then used all the money to buy a large quantity of security wall materials from the manufacturer that had supplied the two construction supervisors. He stored the materials in a warehouse not far from home. One day, the two government supervisors went to a distant location to purchase lightning rods for the Leifeng Pagoda. Dust-scent then began constructing the security wall for the backup air intake according to his plan.
七天後，那兩個縣政府的監理回來後，發現塵香更改了防盜牆的設計方案，而且備用的防盜牆已經建成了三分之一了，立刻叫停了防盜牆的施工。兩個縣政府官員問塵香：“你在哪裏弄來了那麽多的錢，買了這麽多的防盜牆材料？”
塵香指著行宮南麵的房子說：“我把我媽給我的房子和地抵押給了縣銀行得到了貸款。然後，我用全部的錢才買了這些材料。”
Seven days later, when the two county government supervisors returned, they discovered that Dust-scent had changed the design of the security wall, and that a third of the backup wall was already built. They immediately halted construction. The two county officials asked Chen Xiang, "Where did you get so much money to buy so many security wall materials?"
Dust-scent pointed to the house south of the palace and said, "I mortgaged the house and land my mother gave me to the county bank to get a loan. Then, I used all the money to buy these materials."
兩個縣政府官員問：“如果中央政府不認同你的更改方案，那你的房子和地就被銀行收走了。你破產之後住在哪裏？”
塵香指著行宮內的地說：“住這兒！我弟弟才十五歲，未成年。我媽（順皇）不會讓他睡在大街上。”
Two county government officials asked, "If the central government doesn't approve of your proposed changes, your house and land will be seized by the bank. Where will you live after you go bankrupt?"
Dust-scent pointed to the palace and said, "I'll live here! My younger brother is only fifteen years old, a minor. My mother (Emperor Shun) won't let him sleep on the street."
兩個縣政府官員說：“你媽不會讓你們倆住在這座行宮裏，嫌你們礙眼。她也不會讓你們倆成為乞丐，睡在大街上。那她就得同意你的更改方案。但這事是你在我們不在的情況下做的，與我們無關。你得把你的設計更改申請，和你剛才說的話寫下來。我們拿著你的更改方案和你剛才的辯護詞去縣裏匯報。”
Two county government officials said, “Your mother won’t let you two live in this palace; she thinks you’re in the way. She also won’t let you two become beggars and sleep on the streets. So, she must agree to your revised plan. But this was done while we were away, so it has nothing to do with us. You need to write down your design change application and what you just said. We’ll take your revised plan and your defense statement to the county to report.”
縣政府收到塵香的更改方案申請後，也沒說什麽，就把更改方案申請和辯護詞一起送到了位於武漢的中央政府。中央政府同意了塵香的進氣口更改方案。
After receiving Dust-scent's application for changes to the air intake design, the county government didn't say anything and simply sent the application and its defense statement to the central government in Wuhan. The central government approved Dust-scent's proposed changes to the air intake design.
2. 建議建新兵營 Recommendation to Build New Barracks
隨後，塵香聽縣政府官員議論，這座行宮的駐軍基地房子少，不夠用，要擴建。塵香說：“擴建不如建一座新的。這座軍營離行宮太近。你看士兵們把行宮的院門前弄得多髒。還有士兵總是扒著牆頭向院子裏看。我聽我媽叨咕過兩次了，‘這些人總是向院子裏看，也不知道他們在看什麽！哪天我找幾個人把他們都抓住，刺瞎。’”
Later, Dust-scent overheard county government officials discussing that the military base at the migration palace had too few buildings and needed to be expanded. Dust-scent said, "Expanding would be worse than building a new one. This military camp is too close to the palace. Look how dirty the soldiers have made the area in front of the palace gate. And some soldiers are always peering over the wall into the courtyard. I've heard my mother grumble about it twice already, 'These people are always looking into the courtyard, I don't know what they're looking at! One day I'll get a few people to catch them all and blind them.'"
兩個縣政府官員立刻警覺起來了，回答：“謝謝您給我們提供這些信息。為了方便追蹤調查，那些士兵當中有三分之一是我們本地人。把他們弄瞎了會增大我們縣的民生支出。我們縣本來就窮。” 這倆人就向縣政府匯報了。

The two county officials immediately grew wary and replied, “Thank you for providing us with this information. To facilitate tracking and investigation, one-third of those soldiers are locals. Blinding them would increase our county's social welfare expenditures. Our county is already impoverished.” The two then reported the matter to the county government.
Dust-scent quietly asked the construction company manager, “If we build new barracks, where would be a suitable location?”
建築公司經理回答：“行宮東麵的路是一條驛道的主幹道。如果建新兵營可以兼顧驛站，所以新兵營的位置就在驛道旁邊錯開行宮正門的兩個位置。”
The construction company manager replied, “The road east of the Migration Palace is the main thoroughfare of a postal route. If the new barracks can also serve as a postal station, then the location for the new barracks will be positioned alongside the postal route, offset from the main gate of the migration palace at two different points.”
這天，那兩位縣政府官員領著本地守窯（即行宮守衛）的將軍來找塵香，征詢新兵營的選址意見。塵香領著他們看了建築公司經理所指出的兩個位置。然後他說：“我的意見是你們選在行宮南三百米，我家的東麵。原因是你們的士兵可以去我家西麵的河裏去抓魚，洗澡。如果你們選在北麵，你們的士兵去河裏取水，在路上尿泡尿，我媽媽看見了，就不高興。原因是這裏的地勢北高南低，她認為你們在汙染她的水源。 另外，你們士兵的操練場可以選在兵營的北麵200米以內。這樣我媽可以在行宮裏看見你們的操練，讓她感覺安全。”
That day, the two county officials brought the local kiln-guarding (garrison) commander to consult Dust-scent about the location for the new barracks. Dust-scent led them to view the two sites indicated by the construction company manager. Then he said, "My suggestion is to choose the spot 300 meters south of the Migration Palace, east of my home. The reason is that your soldiers can go to the river west of my house to catch fish and bathe. If you choose the northern site, your soldiers fetching water from the river will urinate along the path. My mother will see this and be displeased. The terrain slopes from north to south here, and she believes you are polluting her water source. Additionally, your soldiers' drill ground may be located within 200 meters north of the barracks. This way, my mother can observe your drills from the Migration Palace, which will make her feel secure.”
守衛行宮的將軍聽後，覺著塵香說的有道理，對兩位兩位縣政府官員說：“皇帝家的地就是禁地。我們的軍隊應該守護在禁地的外圍。行宮周圍有皇帝自己的衛兵。我們把兵營建在河的下遊，以免皇帝說我們在汙染她的水源。”
The general guarding the Migration Palace found Dust-scent's reasoning sound. He addressed the two county officials: “The emperor's lands are sacred ground. Our troops should remain stationed at the perimeter of the sacred precincts. The emperor's own guards protect Migration Palace itself. We shall establish our encampment downstream to avoid any accusation that we are polluting her water source.”
3. 承建兵營 Undertaking to Build Barracks
不久之後，兩位兩位縣政府官員就來找塵香了，說：“天蓬元帥女嬰批準了這項有兵營和驛站兩項功能的軍事基地項目。我們縣政府負責提供土地。我們調查了，發現那塊地是你的。你可以選擇賣給我們，也可以選擇租給我們。無論你選擇哪種，價錢都是由縣政府決定的；但是你肯定不吃虧！”
塵香回答：“我不賣。”
兩位兩位縣政府官員回答：“好！你選擇租給我們。有三種選擇。實際這三種都差不多。一但兵營建成了，什麽事都由不得你了。”
Shortly thereafter, two county government officials came to see Dust-scent and said, “Sky Ceiling Marshal, Heroine, has approved this military base project, which will serve both as barracks and a relay station. Our county government will be responsible for providing the land. We've investigated and found that the plot belongs to you. You may choose to sell it to us or lease it to us. Whichever option you choose, the price will be determined by the county government—but rest assured, you won't be shortchanged!”
Dust-scent replied, “I won't sell.”
The two county government officials responded, “Very well! You've chosen to lease it to us. There are three options. Truthfully, they're all quite similar. Once the barracks are built, you won't have any say in the matter.”
塵香隨意選擇了一項租賃合同，然後說：“我還想和你們合作，以平分利潤的形式和你們合作承建這座兵營。”
兩位兩位縣政府官員回答：“我們願意和你合作。隻是我們建議您換一家做預算的公司。你放心，我們肯定能在招標中拿到這個工程的合同。”

塵香和建築公司經理商量承建新兵營的事。開始時，他不同意。後來，他從教徒弟的角度考慮，決定讓塵凡有一次做一個完整工程項目的工作經曆，就答應了。
Dust-scent casually selected a lease agreement and stated, “I'd like to collaborate with you on constructing this barracks, splitting the profits equally.”
The two county government officials replied, “We're willing to partner with you. However, we suggest you switch to a different firm for the budget preparation. Rest assured, we're confident we'll secure the contract for this project in the bidding process.”
Dust-scent agreed.
Dust-scent discussed the construction of the new barracks with the manager of the construction company. At first, he refused. Later, considering it as an opportunity to mentor his apprentice, he agreed to let Dust-scent gain experience managing a complete project.
4. 再次更改行宮的設計 Changing the Design of Migration Palace Again
忽然建築公司經理需要回家裏啊裏喪事。這時，那位兩位縣政府官員幾乎不來工地了。塵香和塵凡告訴施工防盜牆的工頭說：“開始進氣道防盜牆的施工。不過，設計又改了，我要把兩個進氣口連起來，在兩個進氣口之間修建一條通風道。”
工頭叨咕：“那條通風道沒用啊！？”
Suddenly, the construction company manager had to return home for a funeral. Then, those two county government officials scarcely visited the site. Dust-scent and Dust-mortal told the foreman in charge of the security wall construction: “Begin work on the security wall for the air intake ducts. But the design has changed again—I need to connect the two air intakes and build a ventilation duct between them.”
The foreman grumbled, “That ventilation duct is useless!”
塵香回答：“修這條通風道可以把我整修行宮工程的的利潤提高三分之一。我不幹，我就賺不到這份利潤。”
工頭回答：“兩個老板都同意了；我當然願意了。我不幹活也沒也沒人給我利潤。”
塵香說：“先建這兩條通風道的拐角部分。建成後，即便他們不願意，也改不了。”
Dust-scent replied, "Building this ventilation duct can increase my entire palace construction profit by a third. If I don't do it, I won't earn that profit."
The foreman replied, "Both bosses agreed; of course I'm willing. If I don't work, no one will give me any profit."
Dust-scent said, "Build the corner sections of these two ventilation ducts first. Once completed, even if they don't want to, they can't change it."
隨後，塵香讓塵凡去建築公司經理家吊唁，讓經理返回的時間推遲四天。原因是建築公司經理非常喜歡塵凡，幾次說要帶他去參觀幾個古跡，現場為他講解建築學的知識和施工的技術。
Subsequently, Dust-scent instructed Dust-mortal to pay his respects at the construction company manager's home, delaying the manager's return by four days. The reason was that the construction company manager held Dust-mortal in high regard, having repeatedly expressed his desire to take him on tours of several historical sites, where he would personally explain architectural principles and construction techniques.
塵香看進氣口和另一條通風道的連接口已經形成了，就去縣政府申請更改設計了。他晚上回來就請建防盜牆的工頭喝酒，說：“縣政府堅決不同意這次對設計的更改！”
施工防盜牆的工頭聽後，一邊笑一邊說：“這事不奇怪！”
Dust-scent, seeing that the connection between the air intake and the other ventilation duct was complete, went to the county government to apply for a design change. That evening, he treated the foreman building the security wall to drinks, saying, "The county government firmly disagrees with this design change!"
The foreman, upon hearing this, laughed and said, "That's not surprising!"
倆人嘮了一段時間後，塵凡哭了，說：“我辜負了建築公司經理對我的信任，我不想讓他知道這件事。”
工頭說：“我建的連接你要擴建的通風道的連接口是個正常的預留孔，可以被塞起來。這樣做符合國家規範。你說不想讓你的公司經理知道這件事；我可以在堵住預留孔後把牆表麵處理一下，把表麵變成半塊磚厚度的防盜牆。這樣做你的建築公司經理能看出來。但那也符合建築規範；有些時候砌磚的人不注意就會出現那種磚縫的組合。”
After chatting for a while, Dust-scent broke down in tears and said, “I betrayed the trust the construction company manager placed in me. I don't want him to find out about this.”
The foreman replied, "The connection point I built for the ventilation duct you're expanding is a standard reserved opening that can be sealed off. This approach complies with national standards. You said you don't want your company manager to know about this; after sealing the opening, I can finish the wall surface to create a half-brick-thick security wall. Your construction company manager would recognize this. But it also meets building codes; sometimes bricklayers overlook such brick joint patterns."
塵香立刻不哭了，說：“你騙我！？”
工頭拉著塵香到外麵磚垛，擺模型，做示範。塵香學會了拆除預留孔活塞的技巧。工頭還承諾：明天下午三點鍾之前，一切恢複正常，不會再有人看到這次更改設計的痕跡。
第三天，公司經理和塵凡回來後，看見通風口的施工已經完成了大部分。塵凡跟著他查看。經理不經意間看見預留孔處的半壁磚防盜牆麵，思考了一會兒，就離開了。
Dust-scent immediately stopped crying and exclaimed, “You lied to me!?”
The foreman pulled Dust-scent outside to the brick pile, set up a model, and demonstrated the technique. Dust-scent learned how to remove the piston from the reserved opening. The foreman also promised: By three o'clock tomorrow afternoon, everything would be restored to normal, and no one would see any trace of this design change.
On the third day, when the company manager and Dust-mortal returned, they saw that most of the ventilation shaft construction was complete. Dust-mortal followed him to inspect. The manager casually noticed the half-brick anti-theft wall at the reserved hole. After pondering for a moment, he left.
5. 挖進入行宮的隧道 Digging a Tunnel into Migration Palace
從此，塵香和塵凡開始了他們倆在行宮北麵的山裏挖洞的工程。他倆先挖了一個工作室來生產支護山洞的拱架。這哥倆的力氣大，用巨石做了個可移動的洞口門。他們倆每隔幾天就會在夜裏來到工作室向行宮挖地道。隨後的幾個月裏，他們倆挖了約500米長的地道。由於地道太長，他倆不得不給地道做通氣孔。
From there, Dust-scent and Dust-mortal began a project in which they both dug caves in the mountains north of the palace. They first dug a workshop to produce an arch to support the cave. These two brothers were strong enough to make a removable cave door out of boulders. The two of them would come to the workshop every few days at night to dig tunnels into the palace. In the following months, the two of them dug tunnels about 500 meters long. Because the tunnels were so long, the two of them had to make ventilation holes for the tunnels.
14.10 塵香當村長 Dust-scent Becomes Village Chief
話說塵香看見行政給舅舅造假身份證的幾天後，他就根據從捕快們得來的信息，在檔案庫中找到了合適的 “複活人選” （冒充已死亡但沒有注銷的人）。大虎山地區本來隸屬於法庫縣東部的黑山縣，最近才被劃分給法庫縣。檔案剛被送過來。
A few days after Dust-scent witnessed Administrative forging his uncle's ID card, he used information obtained from the constables to find two suitable "resurrected candidates" (a person impersonating someone who was dead, but whose registration hadn't been cancelled) in the archives. The Big-tiger Mountain area originally belonged to Heishan County in the eastern part of Faku County but was only recently assigned to Faku County. The files had just been delivered.
盧堂左和盧堂右是兩兄弟，七年前進山打獵，被洪水衝走了。他們的父母盧岩和劉健君因為懷念孩子，就病了。不久後，這地區發生了瘟疫，這對兒可憐得父母都在瘟疫中死了。隨後，整個大虎山地區被封鎖了。這時，瘟疫的封鎖剛被解除半年。塵香看檔案中對這倆兄弟的年齡體貌的描述和自己及弟弟都很相近，就決定去調查一下。
Hall-left Lu and Hall-right Lu were two brothers who went hunting in the mountains seven years ago and were swept away by a flood. Their parents, Yan Lu and Eve Liu, fell ill with grief for their children. Soon after, a plague broke out in the area, and the two unfortunate parents both died from it. Subsequently, the entire Big-tiger Mountain area was sealed off. At this time, the lockdown had only been lifted six months prior. Dust-scent noticed that the descriptions of the two brothers' age and physical appearance in the files closely matched those of himself and his younger brother, so she decided to investigate.

At that time, the population in Big-Tiger Mountain area was sparse. Following the road signs, Dust-scent quickly located the village and Hall-left Lu's home. Upon entering the house, he also discovered the family genealogy. Following the guidance of a neighbor known as “Wrestler,” he located the graves of Hall-left Lu's parents. Wrestler fetched an iron shovel. Hall-left Lu (aka. Dust-scent) then began adding soil to his parents' graves. Afterward, he kowtowed to his parents, Yan Lu and Eve Liu. Hall-left Lu asked Wrestler, “Are there any former residents in this vicinity?”
跤手回答：“沒有！我是從山東濟南逃荒出來的，看這裏有山有水的，就在這兒住下了。我已經在這裏住半年了。以前這地方方圓十裏就我一個人住，前幾天，村東頭兒來了一對兒夫婦。他們倆是從河南逃荒出來的；男人叫秀才。”
Wrestler replied, “No! I fled famine from Jinan in Shandong. Seeing these mountains and waters, I settled here. I've lived here for half a year now. Before, I was the only one within ten miles of this place. A few days ago, a couple arrived at the eastern end of the village. They fled famine from Henan; the man is called Scholar.”
盧堂左假裝傷心，對跤手說：“兄弟！我給你二兩銀子，你幫我給我父母的墳立塊碑，把房子修修，再在後園裏種些菜。我在縣裏工作，很少回來。我不回來，那菜你就自己吃。我現在去村東頭兒秀才家看看。” 這時，秀才不在家。盧堂左聽說她家沒鍋，想有兩隻羊，就送給了她二兩銀子。
Hall-left Lu (aka. Dust-scent) feigned sadness as he said to Wrestler, “Brother! I'll give you two taels of silver. Use it to erect a tombstone for my parents' graves, repair the house, and plant some vegetables in the backyard. I work in the county seat and rarely return. If I don't come back, you can eat the vegetables yourself. I'm heading to Scholar's house at the eastern end of the village now.” At the time, Scholar was not home. Hearing that his wife lacked a cooking pot and wanted two sheep, Hall-left Lu gave her two taels of silver.

塵香回到縣政府後，就開始製做盧堂左和盧堂右的身份證明，但他發現怎麽也不能通過驗算。最後他來找行政了，說不想節省300兩銀子了。行政進到檔案室查看後說：“你不能依照我給你舅舅做檔案的方式做你自己的檔案。他去的地方你現在還不能去。” 行政說著，就開始教塵凡製作 “複活盧堂左” 的檔案。
Upon returning to the county government, Dust-scent began preparing identity documents for Hall-left Lu and Hall-right Lu. However, he found he couldn't get the calculations to pass verification no matter what he tried. Finally, he sought out Administrative, saying he no longer wished to save the 300 taels of silver. After reviewing the records in the archives, Administrative stated, “You cannot create your own records using the method I employed for your uncle's files. The place he went to are not yet accessible to you.” With that, Administrative began instructing Dust-scent on how to create the file for “resurrecting Hall-left Lu.”
行政幫塵香製作完身份證後，說：“這個身份證你在不用的時候，不要帶在身上。另外，我是借調過來這個縣的，等你學會了管理檔案庫，我就走了。你得常來上班，我教你填寫和核實檔案。半個月後，市裏會來人檢查咱的檔案庫，取走基數。也就是說，半個月後，你和你弟弟的新身份證就生效了。”
After finishing the ID card, Administrative said to Dust-scent, “When you're not using this ID, don't carry it on your person. Also, I'm only here on temporary assignment to this county. Once you've learned how to manage the archives, I'll be leaving. You need to come to work regularly so I can teach you how to fill out and verify the records. In two weeks, someone from the city will come to inspect our archives and take the baseline data. That means in two weeks, your new ID and your brother's new ID will become valid.”

塵香回到家後，告訴弟弟他們倆已經有了新的身份證。他說：”大虎山那地方可好啦，有山有湖。你得去看看。我已經給咱們新的爹媽磕過頭了。你也得去磕頭。”
After returning home, Dust-scent told his younger brother that they had obtained new ID cards. He said, “Big-tiger Mountain is such a beautiful place—with mountains and lakes. You really should go see it. I've already paid respects to our new parents. You need to go pay respects too.”
這天塵香和塵凡就一起去大虎山了。路過集市時，塵凡買了口鍋，進入盧堂左的村子時，遇見一個人趕著兩隻羊。塵香就對趕羊的人說：“我用二兩銀子買你這兩隻羊？” 趕羊的人同意了。塵香和塵凡把羊和鍋給村東邊的秀才家送去了。秀才家裏沒人，他倆就把羊趕進了羊圈。把鍋放在了院子裏。
That day, Dust-scent and Dust-mortal set off together for Big-tiger Mountain. Passing through the market, Dust-scent bought a pot. Upon entering the village of Hall-left Lu, they encountered a man herding two sheep. Dust-scent said to the shepherd, “I'll buy these two sheep from you for two taels of silver.” The shepherd agreed. Dust-scent and Dust-mortal took the sheep and the pot to the scholar's house on the eastern edge of the village. Finding no one at home, they drove the sheep into the pen and placed the pot in the courtyard.
塵凡到這個新家一看，也喜歡這裏的環境。他倆給新父母盧岩和劉健君磕完頭，剛要離開，秀才就趕著兩隻羊來了，說：“剛才我把這兩隻羊賣給你了。你沒注意，這兩隻羊又跑回到我們家了。” 這時鄰居跤手，“嗖”一聲，從牆的另一邊蹦了過來，說：“你到處發銀子，引起混亂！”
盧堂左（即塵香）看見了，驚歎道：“好身手！我怎麽以前沒看出來你是個武林高手！？”
跤手立刻變得弓腰駝背了，說：“怕你找我打架！”
Upon seeing this new home, Dust-scent also grew fond of its surroundings. After kowtowing to their new parents, Yan Lu and Eve Liu, the two brothers were about to leave when Scholar arrived, herding two sheep. He declared, “I sold these two sheep to you earlier. You didn't notice, but they've run back to our place.” Just then, the neighbor Wrestler leapt over the wall with a whoosh and declared, “You're causing chaos by handing out silver everywhere!”
Hall-left Lu (aka. Dust-scent) witnessed this and exclaimed in awe, “What incredible skill! How did I never realize you were a martial arts master before!?”
Wrestler immediately hunched his back and said, “I was afraid you'd challenge me to a fight!”
秀才說：“我去縣裏問過了。一個村子有三戶人家就可申請注冊村名。咱村子該叫什麽名字？”
跤手說：“有錢好說話，盧家屯！有錢好辦事，村長是盧堂左，副村長是盧堂右！”
盧堂左說：“我們哥倆在別的地方工作，不常回家，不能當村長。”
跤手說：“你們哥倆負責出錢。秀才和我分別是執行村長，和執行副村長，負責管理村裏的事務！”
Scholar said, "I went to the county to ask. A village with three households can apply to register a village name. What should our village be called?"
Wrestler said, "Money makes speaking easier, Lu Family Village! Money makes affair easier, the village chief is Hall-Left Lu, and the deputy village chief is Hall-Right Lu!"
Hall-left Lu said, “We brothers work elsewhere and rarely come home, so we can't serve as village chief.”
Wrestler replied, “You two brothers handle the finances. Scholar and I will serve as acting village chief and acting deputy village chief respectively, managing the village affairs!”
盧堂左說：“那好吧！縣政府裏有我的20兩銀子，就提出來作為盧家屯村委會的基金吧！”
秀才說：“今天我到縣裏問過，最少50兩銀子才能設立基金。”
盧堂右（即塵凡）說：“那我捐30兩銀子。”
Hall-Left Lu said, "Okay then! The county government has my 20 taels of silver, so let's use it as a fund for the Lu Family Village Committee!"
Scholar said, "I went to the county to ask today, and it takes at least 50 taels of silver to set up a fund."
Hall-Right Lu (i.e. Dust-mortal) said, "Then I will donate 30 taels of silver."
秀才說：“哇！這麽快就籌到了五十兩銀子。我去取筆和紙，明天就到縣裏去注冊。” 他問盧堂右：“你那30兩銀子什麽時候能送到？”
盧堂右回答：“既然你著急用，明天早晨我就送到縣政府。”
Scholar exclaimed, “Wow! Fifty taels of silver raised so quickly. I'll fetch a pen and paper and register at the county office tomorrow.” He asked Hall-right Lu, “When can you deliver your thirty taels?”
Hall-Right Lu replied, “Since you need it urgently, I'll bring it to the county government first thing tomorrow morning.”
盧堂左看了秀才寫的字，驚歎道：“這字寫得真漂亮！”
秀才回答：“我的字寫得很好，可我隻認識900個字，所以我爺爺稱呼我為秀才。”
盧堂左問：“那我認識1500個字，我該被稱呼為什麽？”
秀才說：“你認識那麽多的字，我應該崇拜你，所以你是‘貢生’。”
Dust-scent looked at the words written by Scholar and exclaimed: "This is so beautiful!"
Scholar replied: "My handwriting is very good, but I only know 900 hieroglyphics, so my grandfather calls me a Scholar."
Hall-Left Lu asked: "Then I know 1,500 hieroglyphics, what should I be called?"
Scholar said: "You know so many hieroglyphics, I should admire you, so you are a 'tribute student'."

The next morning, Scholar went to the county government to register for Lu Family Village. After discussing with Scholar and Wrestler, Administrative decided: This fund should be named the Big-tiger Mountain Township Poverty Alleviation Foundation. Scholar and Wrestler would serve as its chairman and vice-chairman, responsible for distributing one string of coins to each household monthly and handling the village committee affairs of Lu Family Village. Administrative donated 300 taels of silver to the fund, adding: “Once you two have spent this money, you can become the township chief and deputy township chief of Big-tiger Mountain Township.”
盧堂右因為工地有事，去縣政府比約定的時間晚了兩個小時。他到那裏時，已經有30多人向大虎山扶貧基金會捐了銀子，驚訝地問：“這個基金是什麽時候成立的？怎麽這麽多人捐款？”

Hall-Right Lu arrived at the county government two hours later than planned due to construction site matters. Administrative replied, “It was established just two hours ago.”
Hall-Right Lu thought to himself, “The people of this county are truly generous!”

1. 開飯店 Open a Restaurant

Once the post station and barracks were partially completed, the military base came alive with activity. The troops guarding the migration palace began entering the drill grounds for training. Many generals brought their families to visit the palace. At first, Dust-scent and Dust-mortal were delighted by the bustling activity. Soon, however, they found their home lacked privacy, with people constantly peering into their house. Dust-scent then conceived a new idea: build a two-story restaurant between the barracks and their home and raise the restaurant 's walls higher. He sought out the two county officials to discuss the plan.
兩位縣政府官員說：“你自己蓋房子就不用找設計院和預算公司了。我們給你找工程隊。你要建什麽樣的樓就跟他們說。我們在旁邊聽著。你交代清楚後，我們跟他討論價錢。然後，你直接把錢交給他。你說的那飯店三天就能建成。總工期不超過七天。”
Two county government officials stated: “If you build the house yourself, you won't need to hire a design institute or budget company. We'll find you a construction crew. Just tell them what kind of building you want. We'll be listening nearby. Once you've explained everything clearly, we'll discuss the price with them. Then you pay them directly. That restaurant you mentioned can be built in three days. The entire project won't take more than seven days.”
塵凡問：“工期那麽緊！七天建成的飯店能用嗎？”
兩位縣政府官員回答：“七天建成的樓當然比不了這座兵營的房子好，但和城裏的飯店一樣兒，保證好用。”
結果，塵香花了300兩銀子；飯店在七天之內就建成了。他任命他家的廚師去當飯店的經理。此後，塵香，塵凡，和建築公司的經理的三餐都到飯店裏去吃了。
Dust-mortal asked, “With such a tight schedule, will a restaurant build in seven days even be usable?”
The two county officials replied, “A building constructed in seven days certainly can't compare to this barracks, but it will be just as functional as any city hotel.”
In the end, Dust-scent spent 300 taels of silver; the restaurant was completed within seven days. He appointed his family's chef as the restaurant manager. From then on, Dust-scent, Dust-mortal, and the construction company manager all ate their three meals daily at the restaurant.
2. 找家長評理 Seek Parental Judgment
一天，守衛行宮的將軍拿著個盔纓被折斷了的頭盔來找家長評理，對塵香塵凡和建築公司的經理說：“我們的軍事基地和你們家是鄰居。我們已經達成了協議：我們可以去你家的河裏洗澡，釣魚；你們可以使用我們的馬和武器。今天，我想和你們哥倆，還有家長具體說說我們協議的內容。你們使用馬匹必須遵照我們馬匹使用管理細則。你們使用我們的武器也必須遵守我們的武器管理規定。如果你們違反了軍規，必須接受我們軍隊內部的懲罰。你們同意嗎？”
One day, the general guarding the palace came to Dust-scent's house with a helmet and a broken tassel to seek justice from his parents. He said to Dust-scent, Dust-mortal and the manager of the construction company: "Our military base is a neighbor of yours. We have reached an agreement: we can go to your river to bathe and fish; you can use our horses and weapons. Today, I want to talk to you two brothers and your parents about the details of our agreement. You must follow our horse use management rules when you use horses. You must also follow our weapons management regulations when you use our weapons. If you violate military regulations, you must accept punishment within our army. Do you agree?"
塵香和塵凡同意了。建築公司的經理沒說話。

Dust-scent and Dust-mortal agreed. The manager of the construction company said nothing.
The general said to Dust-mortal, "You violated our bow and arrow rules. I punish you with two days of confinement. Come with me!"
Dust-scent yelled at Dust-mortal, "What did you do?"
Dust-mortal said, "They put the helmets of the Black and White Fearsome (namely Correct-ethic and Exhibit-Strange, also known as the Heng Ha Two Generals) 20 meters away and said I couldn't shoot them. So, I shot off their helmet tassels."
塵香對將軍爭辯說：“塵凡被騙了！”
建築公司的經理說：“討厭！我同意送塵凡去禁閉室。”

3. 小射手 Young Archer
隨後，塵香在縣政府對捕快臨衝和路引說了此事，還說要為塵凡找個學習射箭的師父。臨衝告訴塵香，路引就是個神射手，讓塵凡去和路引及他的朋友們狩獵。果然，塵凡三個月就獲得了 “小射手” 的榮譽稱號。
Later, Dust-scent mentioned this affair to Constable Before-charging and Path-leader at the county government office, adding that she wanted to find Dust-mortal a teacher to teach him archery. Before-charging informed Dust-scent that Path-leader was an expert marksman and suggested Dust-mortal go hunting with Path-leader and his friends. Sure enough, within three months, Dust-mortal earned the honorary title of “Young Archer.”
4. 不賣給你 I won't Sell it to You
一天塵香在和兩位縣政府官員喝酒的時候，說要賣這裏的地產，搬家去縣裏。一位官員問：“你要賣多少錢？”
塵香回答：“如果你買，我要三千兩銀子。”
另一個官員問：“如果我要買呢？”
One day while drinking with two county government officials, Dust-scent mentioned he wanted to sell his property here and move to the county seat. One official asked, “How much are you asking for it?”
Dust-scent replied, “If you buy it, I want three thousand taels of silver.”
The other official inquired, “And what if I want to buy it?”
塵香回答：“兩千兩銀子。”
建築公司的經理聽見後，也過來說要買。塵香回答：“不賣給你！” 經理紅著臉走了。幾個監理哈哈大笑。
事後，塵凡不高興地來找塵香：“你怎麽對我師傅這麽沒禮貌？”
Dust-scent replied, "Two thousand taels of silver."
After hearing this, the manager of the construction company also came over and said he wanted to buy it. Dust-scent replied, "I won't sell it to you!" The manager left with a red face. Several supervisors laughed.
Afterwards, Dust-mortal came to Dust-scent unhappily and said, "Why are you so rude to my teacher?"
塵香回答：“你師傅早就發現咱倆打算離開這裏了。這個工程是那個女人（順皇）在給咱倆錢。咱倆走了，她肯定派人來查賬。這座房子和家具都是咱爹牛郎自己設計製作的，那個女人肯定會要回去。我給你師傅長兩倍的工資，現在生效。”
塵凡去告訴公司經理說：“我哥說給你長兩倍的工資，今天生效。”
建築公司的經理聽後，沒說話。
Dust-scent replied, "Your teacher has long known that we are planning to leave here. The woman (Emperor Shun) is paying us for this project. If we leave, she will send someone to check the accounts. This house and furniture were designed and made by our father Cowboy himself, and the woman will want it back. I will triple your teacher's salary, effective now."
Dust-mortal went to tell the company manager, "My brother said he will triple your salary, effective today."
The manager of the construction company didn't say anything after hearing this.
