檢查一架十多年沒有調律的佩卓夫PETROF三角鋼琴驟然發現了狼音音程Wolf Interval,無法確認當年的調律師是如何為了保證五度純淨,把這誤差24 音分全部“塞進”最後一個五度導致其產生狼音的。狼音的產生也是因為數學上12個純五度不等於 7個純八度,兩者之間存在約 23.46 音分的餘數(稱為畢達哥拉斯增差)。
很久沒有談及十二平均律的比例與五度音程,如何達到物理上的“完美純淨”。特別是讓所有半音之間的比例完全相等(約1.05946),其奧秘在於將這 24 音分的誤差被平均分成了 12 份,每個五度音程隻分擔約 2 音分的極小偏差,從而實現了自由轉調。十二平均律通過均勻分配誤差,徹底消除了狼音音程Wolf Interval。

Inspecting a Petrof grand piano that hadn't been tuned for over ten years, I suddenly discovered a wolf interval. It was impossible to determine how the tuner from years ago managed to "stuff" all 24 cents of error into the last perfect fifth to maintain the purity of the other fifths, thus creating the wolf interval. The wolf interval arises because mathematically, twelve perfect fifths do not equal seven perfect octaves; there is a remainder of approximately 23.46 cents between them (known as the Pythagorean comma).
