宗教與繪畫-2：瑪利亞降生

書接上文，若亞敬（Saint Joachim）和安妮（Saint Anne），分別從天使那裏得到了好消息，「你們將生下一個這世界上最純潔最珍貴的女兒」。天使又指點他們在城外見麵，於是若亞敬從荒野回到耶路撒冷，在城門口與妻子重逢。

這一段故事，名叫「金門相會」（Meeting at the Golden Gate）。

在天主教的傳統裏，他們夫妻在金門下互相擁抱，或者親吻。也就是在這相擁相吻的一刻，安妮懷上了瑪利亞（Mary, mother of Jesus）。

這一點很重要，因為後來若亞敬和安妮沒有同房。瑪利亞的父親確實是若亞敬，母親確實是安妮，她是人而不是神的後代，但她的降生是「聖母無染原罪」（Immaculate Conception）。

所以，聖母瑪利亞沒有攜帶人類的原罪（Original Sin），她是完全聖潔的。

在描述這一段故事的繪畫中，若亞敬一般是麵向城門，因為他是從荒野歸來。他身後如果有其他人物，多是打獵牧羊的男子。

安妮一般是背對城門，因為她是從家中出來，迎接丈夫。她身後，多是隨從女眷。

瑪利亞的生日，在九月八日。Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary：September 8。

瑪利亞的英文是 Mary，來自拉丁文 Maria，來自希臘文 Μαρ?α (María)，來自希伯來文  ??????? or Miryam。是被愛的，被眷顧的意思（Beloved）。

這裏，左後方是若亞敬和安妮夫婦。前方正中，一個接生婆把小瑪利亞從浴盆裏取出，交給一個侍女擦幹。周圍有天使圍伴。

這幅作品是牟利羅（Murillo）為塞維利亞大教堂創作的壁畫。1813 年法國-西班牙半島戰爭的時候，法國將軍 Jean-de-Dieu Soult 把它（和牟利羅的另一幅作品）搶到了法國。後來被羅浮宮購買，收藏至今。

上一回裏也有這個畫家，Domenico Ghirlandaio。那次他是把買家富商的兒子畫進作品裏，這次是買家富商的女兒，Ludovica Tornabuoni，身後跟隨著四個女眷，從左邊注視著新生的瑪利亞。

右上方有一個窗戶，讓陽光撒了進來。雕塑下麵的拉丁文，”NATIVITAS TUA GENITRIX VIRGO GAUDIUM ANNUNZIAVIT UNIVERSO MUNDO” 翻成英文是 “Thy birth, O Virgin and Mother of God, brings joy to all the world”。

（這裏筆者感慨一下，花錢請這個多米尼哥畫畫真的性價比太高了。連女兒的仆人都能畫進作品，流傳後世。）

教皇保羅六世（Paul VI）在 Marialis Cultus 中提到，瑪利亞的降生，“給全世界帶來了希望，為人類的救恩帶來曙光“。
