洪都拉斯把台灣踹了，與中共聯姻。
眾所周知，任何國家想和中共建交，先決條件是承認一中，承認台灣是中國領土不可分割的一部分。因此，建交公報是這樣寫的：
洪都拉斯共和國政府承認世界上隻有一個中國，中華人民共和國政府是代表全中國的唯一合法政府，台灣是中國領土不可分割的一部分。
The Government of the Republic of Honduras recognizes that there is but one China in the world, the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal Government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.
但是，中美建交公報的版本卻不一樣，長期以來，中方一直指責美國玩文字遊戲，可是英文就是有recognize 和 acknowledge兩個詞匯，老美當初用acknowledge，鄧小平代表中國簽了字的。
雖然中方一廂情願的認為，美國承認台灣是中國領土，但是美方在建交公報上的原文是：The Government of the United States of America acknowledges the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China。 ‘ac’作為一個英文前綴，帶有‘to’ 或‘towards’的意思，功能上，把其後的名詞轉變成動詞，如：accustom ，account，accredit，accompany ，acclaim，accomplish，所以，acknowledge就是knowledge的動詞化，及美國政府有了這樣的knowledge——中國的立場是，隻有一個中國，台灣是中國的一部分。（正確的翻譯是，美國政府知曉/認識到）。
就外交術語而言，美國承認“一個中國”，但不承認大陸對台灣擁有主權，也認可事實上（de facto）台灣作為一個國家存在的合法性。
在洪都拉斯與大陸建交後，美國國務院發言人表示，美國強烈鼓勵所有國家擴大與台灣的交流，不論宏都拉斯的決定為何，美國將會持續深化、擴大與台灣的往來。繼佩洛熙訪台之後，美國政府與台灣的聯絡不斷加深，蔡英文正在籌劃訪美並會晤麥卡錫。台灣失去一個洪都拉斯，或許能得到更多的國際聲援，甚至不排除與美國建交的可能性。
美國對於台灣的立場，上海公報中表達的最清晰：The United States acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China——台灣的定位，完全是你們兩岸人的事。
很多中國人有一個誤解，認為除了美國，其他國家都承認台灣是中國的一部分。其實，大部分西方國家的立場和美國一樣，從未表達過台灣屬於中國，在這些國家的建交公報上，提及台灣，一律是“認識到中國的立場……”：

The Government of the United Kingdom, acknowledging the position of the Chinese Government that Taiwan is a province of the People's Republic of China,
The Australian Government recognises the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government of China, acknowledges the position of the Chinese Government that Taiwan is a province of the People's Republic of China,
The Chinese Government reaffirms that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China. The Canadian Government takes note of this position of the Chinese Government.
