Why is China supporting the invasion of Ukraine?

Q: Why is China supporting the invasion of Ukraine?

A:

China did not. China expressed its concern and understanding of the complexity of the issue. China would like no military conflict in Ukraine. China would like to keep good relationships with both Ukraine and Russia.

But it is none of the business of China. The military conflict happened in Europe. China has no military bases in Europe, and can do nothing about it.

Yet, if you think the conflict is between Ukraine and Russia, then you are too naive. The US is a hegemon. The US is behind many issues around the world. In 2017, the US designated China as its number one rival. Even if the conflict happened in Europe, the US is behind it and aimed at China. It is a detour tactic of the US to weaken China’s geopolitical position. China has to defend its national interest and mitigate the effects that might weaken it.

First, China would not like to be drawn into the conflict. China has advocated a diplomatic solution and a ceasefire from the beginning.

Second, China would not like to increase its enemies because of the conflict. Specifically, China would not like to turn Russia into its enemy. China made the right decision. As we can see, Trump and Putin are friends now. If China joined the West to sanction Russia, it would be a disaster. China did not support Russia with weapons as Europe did to Ukraine. But China kept a friendly relationship with Russia in the economy.

Third, China would like to keep a good relationship with Europe and Ukraine, under the condition that China keeps its sovereignty to make friends with other countries, especially Russia. China would not compromise its sovereignty to appease Europe or Ukraine. China views all countries as equal, including the US, Europe, Ukraine, and Russia alike. Europe and Ukraine should not dream of drawing China into the conflict. The conflict is none of China's business. China just follows its own diplomatic principle: no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation. Now, Trump is off the hook of the conflict and has befriended Putin. No one can blame China’s choice of diplomatic independence.

China did not, does not, and will not support any invasion that violates the UN Charter. Europe bombed Libya and annexed Yugoslavia. Europe has no moral high ground to teach China what it should or should not do about the conflict in Ukraine.

China has a vision of a Shared Future for Mankind. China would like to establish friendly relations with every country.
