『道德經 第十四章 』(視之不見,名曰夷)

 第十四章
 
【原文】
視之不見,名曰夷①;聽之不聞,名曰希②;搏之不得,名日微③。此三者不可致詰(jié)④,故混而為一⑤。其上不皦(jiǎo)⑥,其下不昧(mèi)⑦,繩(mǐn)繩兮不可名⑧,複歸於無物。是謂無狀之狀,無物之象,是謂惚恍⑨。迎之不見其首,隨之不見其後。執古之道⑩,以禦今之有。能知古始,是謂道紀。
 
【注釋】  
①夷:看不見。
②希:聽不到。
③微:摸不著。“夷”、“希”、“微”三字均形容感官所不能把握的“道”。
④詰(jié):追。
⑤一:即“道”。
⑥皦(jiǎo):光亮,光明。
⑦昧(mèi): 昏暗,陰暗。
⑧繩繩(mǐn)、渺茫、不清楚。
⑨惚恍:閃爍不定的樣子。
⑩古之道:就是太初的大道。
 
【譯文】
怎麽看也看不見,我們把它叫作“夷”;怎麽聽也聽不到,我們把它叫作“希”;怎麽摸也摸不著,我們把它叫作“微”。這三者的形象難以區分開來,它原本就是混沌一體的。它的上麵並不顯得明亮,它的下麵也不顯得昏暗,它綿延不絕而又不可名狀,又總要回到看不見物體的虛無狀態。這是沒有形狀的形狀,沒有具體物象的形象,這就叫作“惚恍”。從前方去接近它,看不見它的頭;從後麵去追趕它,看不見它的尾。根據早已存在的“道”的運行規律,來考察現在的具體事物,我們就能了解宇宙的原始,這就叫作道的規律。
 
English Translation

What can be seen but not perceived is called “Yi”;
What can be heard but not understood is called “Xi”;
What can be touched but not grasped is called “Wei.”
These three are beyond comprehension,
Together they become one.
Above the One, there is no light;
Beneath the One, there is no darkness;
The infinity of the One is ineffable,
Returning to the intangible non-being.
This is called the form without a form,
The image without an image like a shadow.
Approaching from the front, you cannot see the face;
Approaching from behind, you cannot see the back.
Hold fast to the Tao of antiquity,
For then you will command all realities of the present
And know their coming and going.
That is the essence of Tao’s teaching.
