一個中國人和一個加拿大人對Jimmy Kimmel Kid's Table Show的討論

加拿大人說:

“First, I'm not surprised that a thought like that comes out of an American white kid. America is fundamentally a racist country. It tries hard to hide it, but comes out when pushed to the corner.

Second, it shows the desperate American angst that some other country is rising rapidly to challenge its power.

The kid's comment is simplistic. It's a very complicated financial interrelationship which even I don't understand. Perhaps you can explain it for me.

This is the danger of free speech. I know the First Amendment in America is paramount. But it runs the risk of verging on hate crime. This is what's happened here. Free speech turned into expression of hate.

It's sad that such dangerous ideas are encouraged in the children. American parents are losing control of the next generation.

Finally, Kimmel should never have allowed it to be aired. I'm surprised that he allowed it. There has to be some accountability in those who have so much influence in the media.

But I believe in the American people, at least in the thoughtful 51%. I think they will see through this, and support the Chinese Americans.”

中國人說:

"What concerns me most is Kimmel and ABC went ahead to air the show.  Were they not sensitive enough to racist speeches?  Or did they think it would cater to most of their audience's mood/taste etc., so they decided that on this occasion they would weigh the right of free speech more than the responsibility of helping eliminate racism in the society?

The kid's thought came naturally if he had been exposed to stories/games/tv shows that had a lot of killings happening.  Maybe he did not really mean what he said.  He's but a young kid.  His solution is simplistic, but I guess historically there are wars rooted from the same logic.  Sometimes a kid's naive thought is actually reflecting the very deep of human nature.

China has huge international trade surplus.  The safest and most flexible way to invest that surplus, so far, is to buy US Treasury bonds.  That's how China has become the largest debt owner of the US government.  But a rising power to challenge the  US?  I don't think so.  The country has to be more accountable and ethical for its own people's well being before it is able to play a leader's role in the world to some extent.

It's understandable that Americans are not used to seeing some signs of an empire falling, and some other countries rising.  They don't have to be so desperate.  Looking back at Ancient China and the Great Britain, you'll know everything has a cycle of rising and falling.  That's just natural.  Nevertheless, I still think the US is a promising country because of its relatively reasonable social and economic system, despite many exsiting problems.  "
