I find Emily Browning very attractive, but the movies so dark I wasn’t distracted by it. The theme is about self harm & self destruction. Most characters appear emotionless or broken, but I see it more as they’re all just masking them, which makes the acting really good. I thought I’d be creeped out by the sleeping parts, but they became interesting. Except the sadist, I can never connect in any way with those types. I think Lucy freaks out at the end because she feels like the bringer of death. Two different men who want to end themselves think, ‘boy, I‘d really like to die next to Lucy’. That’d break most of us

Took me awhile to get the meaning, but here it is: Better left sleeping in innocence than to wake up to a nightmare

Spoiler Alert: the meaning of this movie: Old sick men with money pay to share a bed with Lucy while she is doped into oblivion, allowing them to act out their last fantasies until they die. That's her job. The others aren't dead yet, but they'll be back. In the meantime she lies down with her dying friend the Birdman until he passes. She tells no one. Absolute discretion! That's why he lay there dead for two weeks. She didn't even tell her former lover after he informed her of the Birdman's passing. As an aside story, her ex's refusal to marry her is based on her previous refusal to marry him. Just another indication of the kind of woman she is. In the end she realizes this is her purpose in life, to be the "sleeping beauty". Thus the crying tantrum. Sad, really.

seems shes one of those people who's only attracted to/wants intimacy with those she can't really have. So she goes to the rando pickup bar to relieve the tension created by the unavailable quasi-lover. Its not the one she wants so she doesn't care who it is. as long as its somebody who wants her.

I didn't get the ending until you your comment, weird movie. the English are good at that. if you've ever tried to watch TV in England, its pretty much everything they produce overthere, really weird stuff. I ended up watching a TV show that was popular over there. It was a woman sitting on a stool with a blank backround saying, I'm thinking of a word. people would call in and try to guess that word and she would say no thats not it... No clues, nothing to jaz it up. just that. no oen ever guessed that I know of. I think there was prize for guessing, that wasn't even exciting. if I remember I think it was 2000 LB , pen Whatever they call their currency

Fun Fact: The film is based off of several novels “The House of the Sleeping Beauties” and “Memories of My Melancholy Whores” by Nobel laureates Yasunari Kawabata and Gabriel García Márquez.
This type of service that Lucy is assigned is a real red light district job in some countries. Where its most common is in Japan.

SLEEPING BEAUTY, which premiered in competition at this years' Cannes Film Festival, is a fascinating depiction of a young woman's reckless decent into a shocking world of erotic desires. Lucy (Emily Browning) is a young university student possessed by a kind of radical passivity. She lets a flip of a coin decide the outcome of a random sexual encounter and she displays an uncomplaining patience when facing the repetitions of her various menial jobs that fund her studies. One day she answers an ad in the student newspaper and interviews for a job to be a lingerie waitress. But she is secretly being initiated into a world of strange new work; one where she will have to give into absolute submission to her clients by being sedated; becoming a Sleeping Beauty. Eventually this unnerving experience begins to bleed into her daily life and she finally develops the will to break the spell by discovering what happens to her while she sleeps.
