明月幾時有

明月幾時有？把酒問青天。
不知天上宮闕，今夕是何年。
我欲乘風歸去，又恐瓊樓玉宇，高處不勝寒。
起舞弄清影，何似在人間？
Bright moon, full moon, how often may it appear?
To the blue sky, with a cup of wine, I posed this question.
I wonder what year it is now, there upon the palace in heaven.
I wish to fly back with wind, to the castles of jade,
Yet high upon there, it will be too chilly, I’m afaid.
With my clear shadow I rise to dance,
No longer on earth I am in a trance!

轉朱閣，低綺戶，照無眠。
不應有恨，何事長向別時圓？
人有悲歡離合，月有陰晴圓缺，此事古難全。
但願人長久，千裏共嬋娟。

The moon, it shines everywhere: around red mansions, through rich
roofs, upon the sleepless.
The moon, it bears no grudge, but why is it ever so full and bright
When beloved ones have to say goodbye?
We lament, we revel, we bid farewell and then reunite,
Just as the moon turns dim or bright, full or new.
So helpless, it has been, ever since.
May our loved ones live long enough,
toast to the same beautiful moon, though miles apart.
