據報道，阿西娜是在12歲時被查出患有骨肉瘤(osteosarcoma)。這是一種骨癌。當時正值聖誕節前，她在廚房摔了一跤。經確診後，醫生給阿西娜進行了長達7個半小時的手術，好去除其脊髓中的瘤。隨後，阿西娜接受了長達數月的化療治療，以對付其脊椎、肩部、頭部的癌細胞。
因長期接受治療，阿西娜失去了一頭秀發、體重大幅下降，但小小年紀的她仍然非常樂觀。在醫院中，她甚至反過來照顧父母，鼓勵母親不要哭，叮囑其吃飯。
然而病魔無情，上個星期阿西娜過世，離開了父母與其他7個兄弟姐妹。她的父母整理其遺物時發現了這一背麵寫滿遺言的鏡子，上麵的內容令他們心碎。
阿西娜用馬克筆寫道：“快樂取決於我們自己。重要的或許不是故事是否有完美結局，而是故事本身。生活的目標是有目標地去生活。平凡與不朽之間的區別是那一點額外努力。”此外，小女孩還寫下了其對愛情的憧憬。她寫道：“我在等待，愛上一個我能向他打開心扉的人。”
阿西娜的父親迪恩·奧查德(Dean Orchard)曾是一名園藝師，自女兒生病後便辭去了工作。他說，第一次看到鏡子時，自己幾乎暈倒。他說：“女兒從未提過這事，但這確實是她會做的事情。她總會做一些我難以領會的事，她很聰明。”

Love is not about how much you say I love you – it’s about how much you can prove it’s true. Love is like the wind, you can feel it but you can't see it. I'm waiting to fall in love with someone I can open my heart to.
Love is not about who you can see spending your future with, it's about who you can't see spending your life without... Life is a game for everyone but love is the prize. Only I can judge me.
