Silence

Violin is trembling
Trombone is sliding
Music fills the space and time
  In house and school
Chit-chat in cars
  on top of radio
Silence is hard to come by now days

Not like in days when I grew up
Sound was harder to find
  until the black and white TV work its way in
  with programs went to bed at 10:00PM
Did I stare at the ceiling afterwards
or played dirt before they started at 5:00PM
Did I sit on the front steps
   listening to the breeze
    swoosh through the silent community
     in spring afternoon
or
  listening to the mosquitoes 
     humming around
     in the smothering summer night

They were all moments of cozy silence
   I like to live through the ages
