The Dow Jones industrial average rose for an eighth straight day, its longest unbroken climb since August. The Dow was up 45.5 points, the NASDAQ closed up two points, but the S&P 500 was the loser, dropping a fraction. Trading volume was down slightly from yesterday. But it's been a very quiet and a very light volume drift higher to these multi-month highs.

Energy and financial shares keep markets in check. FedEx sees a 'broadening recovery.' Leading economic indicators rise for the 11th month in a row.
