Though autumn has begun and the End of Heat approaches, according to the solar terms the lingering summer should be waning and temperatures gradually falling.
Yet the weather defies human expectations, unpredictable as ever. Driving along Highway 99 toward downtown Vancouver, the scorching sun remains relentless and inescapable.
As I enter the Richmond Tunnel, slipping into a stretch of cool shade, a thought suddenly arises—the scene before me sparks a tangible vision:
At the bottom of the vast Pacific Ocean, a clear and bright two-way tunnel stretches all the way to the mainland of the motherland. Inside, the temperature is as mild as spring or autumn, and the transparent walls offer views of marine life playing and darting about, near and far, approching and disappearing—all freely visible to those traveling through.
At regular intervals, the tunnel is equipped with gas stations, power stations, rest stops, dining and shopping areas. Travelers move through in comfort, with full network connectivity. Though deep beneath the ocean, it is as bustling as the surface world, yet entirely free of dust...
In a daze, a moment later, emerging from the Richmond Tunnel, I am once again exposed to the blazing sun. Only then do I realize it was but a mirage—a fantasy born of my own imagination.
