From the traditional point of view, only the officially painted works could be considerd as artworks. And manuscripts, sketches and croquis did not contain so-called artistic value. This could explain why the exhibition of Francis Bacon’s manuscripts in AMNUA several years ago was that controversial. However, manuscript as a form of art does have special value and meanings. People usually do not pay much attention to it yet this could not be neglected at all. Whoever with passion for art would not be attracted by Leonardo da Vinci’s drafts or Bacon’s manuscripts? Furthermore, this exhibition is not only a review of Zhu’s attractive works, but also a response to the historical perspective of art creating methodology. Exhibition View, Nanjing EAST GALLERY

The artworks on spot have been chosen thoroughly and divided into different parts, which were named under the most frequently using peom format by Zhu Xinjian, such as Old Drama Mei, Drizzling Jiangnan, Joyful Meeting and so on. We have to admit that the show-up of Zhu’s manuscripts opens a window for us. We could not better understand how hardworking and diligent he was and how frankly he treated the painting thing. Although there was a little regret, that we would not see the original status of the works, causing by disassembling the integerate sketch book into pieces for scanning, but we still tried our best present the unbroken clue amongst his painting through carefully organising and placing these works. We sincerely wish the audience entering here could feel the real Zhu Xinjian with his alacrity. Exhibition View, Nanjing EAST GALLERY
