　　在一個度假中心，一位十七歲的少女隨著家人參加，在因緣際會之下，經由舞蹈表演，她認識了一位舞者，在學習過程中，和他陷入熱戀，少女開始了解到熱舞的刺激與魅力......
　　
　　1963年夏末的凱勒曼山區，弗朗西絲和父母、妹妹一道來到此地度假。還在上學的弗朗西絲是個17歲的正經姑娘，她對男孩子、舞蹈課和家庭遊戲都不感冒。一天晚上，於一個偶然的機會，她進入了一家旅館，發現那裏正在舉行舞會。讓她吃驚的是，這裏的人都雙雙緊貼在一起，瘋狂地舞動著，這就是充滿色情氣息的“髒舞”。這時，舞蹈教練約翰尼·卡斯爾來到不知所措的弗朗西絲麵前，打消了她的顧慮，並教給她舞蹈的基本步法。在學習的過程中，弗朗西絲愛上了約翰尼。由於怕被解雇，約翰尼不敢將這種關係發展下去。約翰尼的舞伴彭尼懷上了大學生羅比的孩子，弗朗西絲讓當醫生的父親為彭尼會診，父親以為彭尼的懷孕是約翰尼所致，遂不讓弗朗西絲和其來往，但弗朗西絲背著父親仍偷偷地和約翰尼約會。一個掉了錢包的顧客誣陷是約翰尼乾的，約翰尼就此失了業。弗朗西絲的父親這時知道了彭尼孩子的真正父親，對錯怪了約翰尼懊悔不已。約翰尼在舉行的夏季結束的晚會上歸來，他同弗朗西絲翩翩起舞，優美的舞姿使所有的人為之傾倒。
