Winter Solstice

The last defeated leave
Still hangs like stubborn death
Outside of a cheap hotel
A bachelor lights a cigarette to stay warm
U-haul truck like a closed box
Whirls away all the pessimistic belongings
The deserted streetcar disappears into the fog
Slow like a snail
A winter crow returns
With faith in the dying leave
The crispy sound of coins put into a pay phone
Bounced back out like despair
Winter begins today
His dry hair soaked with cold sweat
The chimneys are sullen, speechless
Belching out the slow dark anger
A police car, a blue angel
Patrols along the border between heaven and hell
God is off duty on Sundays
The bell in the cement tolls like thunders
The winter crow returns
Cawing statically
Before the cold current arrives
The city’s giant engine goes on
Rolling the lucky number for a survivor
