I guess the popularity in Latin due to its appropriateness in dancing socially, be enjoyable as beginners, the excitement of the music, and a good body exercise. You can enjoy Latin dances in all dance levels due to the degree of freedom for each individual. Comparably, Standard dances are very hard to enjoy as a beginner. You can not move out of even the basic steps if you don't have right frame, connection, and movement. Standard dances are much harder, though it looks easier.

Latin dances are more exciting to watch, plus the hot girls. Body isolation is the basic for Latin (and for all other dances as well), and the cuban movement. It takes a lot work to be really good. Yes, dances are telling stories.

Latin ballromm dance is visually enjoyable to me. Wild and passionated. I am always wondering how they move. It seems every joint in their bodies is able to move freely and elegantly. hehe... Every piece of dancing tells a story.
