INTERLUDE: The Ishmael Toledot (25:12-18)

While not the son of the covenant, Ishmael nonetheless was blessed and would become a great nation in his own right (17:19-22). The offspring of Ishmael were twelve tribes which, according to tradition, developed into the Arabic peoples.
