Bear story

Below is an email from a friend Winnie - living in Vancouver BC. Blake is her husband:

Now the bear story.  It was on Friday, July 28.  Blake and I were outside our place in Whistler getting ready to go for a bike ride.  All of a sudden the dog from the house next door was barking furiously.  We looked and saw a big bear eating out of the dog’s dish right by their front door with the dog barking a few feet away from the bear.  No wonder the dog was upset.  The bear ignored the dog and just ate away.  Then the dog got bold and came closer to the bear.  Then the bear raised its paw at the dog and the dog backed off.  This happened lightening fast.  This went on for probably 10 minutes.  Eventually the bear had enough and ambled off behind their house, then our house, and disappeared. 

That evening Blake told Jason, our next door neighbour.  He said that morning at 5 am their dog was barking,  He came to the door and found a bear just got inside the house.  I guess they didn’t bolt the lock.  It must have been the same bear.  This bear must have found out about the dog’s food and had gotten used to it.  Jason said he won’t put dog food outside anymore.  We haven’t seen that bear since.  Blake took a few photos while the bear was eating the dog food.  The photos are in the Whistler computer.  Next time we are up there, we’ll send you one or two of the photos.
