替補隊員

女兒參加學校的Journalism team，去州裏參加比賽。本來是參加Headline的項目，沒想到有同學臨時不能參加，老師隻好讓女兒頂替，參加兩個項目的比賽。老爸問：“Are you sure you can handle both?”

“Doesn't matter. We had no time to prepare this event, and the teacher only gave us one week in advance to show us some examples about what to do in the contest.”女兒一臉的不在乎。

先是regional比賽。女兒的headline項目沒有獲得評委的青睞，而臨時頂替的Copy and Editing居然拿了個地區第二，更妙的是，女兒學校獲得地區第一名，讓女兒有機會代表學校參加州裏的比賽。老爸和女兒開玩笑：“Huh, see, it is important to take part in a team no matter what you play in the team. You were lucky to took the position of Copy and Editing, otherwise, you would have no chance for the final round.”

上個周末就是州裏的決賽了。女兒開車膽小，要去４０裏外的地方，隻能求老爸了。好吧，就犧牲一個周末不釣魚，陪女兒和她學校的team一天吧。再說，也是女兒練車的機會呢。

女兒比賽，老爸就在大學城裏散步，順便加油，買好女兒的午餐。十一點半比賽就完了。女兒一邊啃著三明治，一邊催著老爸快點往會趕，要去參加另一所大學的Asian American event。

 

傍晚，終於忙完了女兒才開口給老爸說：“You know what, dad, I got nothing from the contest for myself. However, our team won 2nd place in the State--a big step from 9th last year.....”

看來，比賽是重在參與啊。
