中國教育的潰敗：精神與價值貧困的年代

        許知遠／第三排的短髮女生說：「我二十一歲，為什麽活得卻像是四十一歲？每天都被很多壓力裹著，論文、GRE、考研、找工作……」因為情緒激動，她的語速急促，像是迫不及待要把胸中的積鬱釋放出來，她的單薄身軀承受不住了。這是北京大學的一堂講座課，我是這堂課的講演者，台下是新聞學院的三年級學生。他們的表現出乎我的意料。他們大多出生在一九八七年前後，在九十年代後期度過青春期。這二十年經濟擴張、物質豐裕、資訊發達、中國日漸卷入全球化的過程，也是意識形態死亡的二十年。

 我們曾本能的相信，這種環境將孕育出更獨立、更自由、對世界了解更寬闊的一代人，而他們將把中國社會帶入一個新階段。但事實好像並非如此。這堂課程像是這一代人困境的某種縮影。在講課環節時，我發現他們對世界所知甚少，十五年前我讀書時被認定為必須知道的人類曆史和重要人物，他們幾乎都很陌生。

而在交流環節時，他們都抑製不住的表達自己的受挫感，他們感覺到社會的巨大壓力，不相信個人的意誌與力量，感到自己一直在遵循別人的要求而生活。詩歌、愛情、理想主義，這些青春必要的元素，在他們的生活普遍性的缺席。

接觸的時間短暫，或許我的觀察不可避免的帶有偏見。兩天後，我在《南方週末》上讀到了關於義烏工商學院的「超級畢業生」的報道。這所學校的副院長是個狂熱學生創業支持者，學生最普遍的創業方式是在淘寶網上開辦自己的小店，他們中最成功的一位叫楊甫剛，他二十四歲，剛畢業不久，卻已月收入四萬元，還僱用六位員工，其中一位還來自名校武漢大學。

 在就業形勢嚴峻的此刻，他是這所默默無聞的學院的奇蹟和希望。如今，這所學院正變成一所淘寶創業家的樂園，宿舍裏堆滿了紙盒子、接不完的電話，年輕人大部分時光都消耗在網上----他們是一群網路世界的小商小販。副院長賈少華則對記者說：「延續培養精英的老思想，那是誤人子弟。」

北京大學和義烏工商學院，是中國高等教育的兩個極端，卻陷入同樣的困境----教育的目的和意義，徹底缺失了。大學失去了獨立性，不僅屈服與政治壓力，也臣服在社會壓力之下。而年輕人，這些代表著國家與社會未來的新血液，一方麵缺乏靈魂上與知識上的引導者，缺乏保護和鼓勵，另一方麵被提前推入赤裸裸的達爾文主義式的競爭中，被擠壓和馴服，用自己的青春熱情和創造力來交換生存哲學。他們沒有被當作一個個人來看待，而隻是巨大的經濟社會機器上的一個齒輪。

我理解那個北大女生的感慨。即使在中國最知名的學府，教育理念也很少被提及。這所大學擔負著盛名，卻早已交出了原則和信念。行政化與商業化，這兩個趨勢正扼殺掉它的生命力。它本應是中國最精英大學，為這個國家提供最傑出的頭腦、最富批評性的觀念、最具理想主義的青年。但它對於這一使命，視而不見。那些費盡心機考入這所大學的青年，在短暫的虛榮心被滿足之後，發現了無窮的失落。

他們渴望在這裏被啟發，被引導，被激發出生命中最燦爛的東西，並尋找到自己最想走的道路。當這一切都沒有時，他就隻能成為流行觀念的俘虜。他要成為別人希望的自己，他要和很多同齡人在同樣的社會標準進行同樣的競爭，於是競爭就變得殘酷無比，他越發迷失了自己。

我也理解賈少華的感慨和楊甫剛的選擇。是啊，這樣一所學院，既沒有傳統也沒有現實的師資和學生的競爭力，它唯一的優勢在於它背靠這個出名的義烏----全球小商品的集散地。與其讓學生在校園裏無所事事的四年、或者學習那樣僵死的知識，不如讓他們及早進入社會。但很顯然，賈少華誤解了「精英教育」。中國大學從未給學生提供過「精英教育」，僵化、刻板、陳舊，不是精英教育。而他提供的解決之道，或許不再刻板、陳舊，卻隻是一種帶有新的毒性的解藥。

他使教育徹底庸俗化，事實上，他的方法沒給學生帶來任何新的價值，學生們隻是提前變成了小商販。他們的成功也是如此脆弱，就像《南方週末》的記者潘曉淩總結的：「最低的運營成本、最充裕的時間，再加上青春無敵的精力，這些全天黏在電腦前的超級學生們擁有難以複製的競爭力。」但是，義烏已有太多這樣的勤奮小商人，或許他們的很多父母都是如此，那揦這所學院的存在還有何價值，另一座有個學院名字的批發市場嗎？

在某種意義上，二十歲左右的這一代人，或許是最不幸的一代。他們生活在物質、資訊過分豐沛、精神與價值卻如此匱乏的年代，也是一個技術手段不斷增悤的年代，目的和意義卻消失了的年代。

W: 魯迅didn't have any workable solution, either.does that make him a useless writer?

M: I do not think so. Luxun is the leader of WuSi culture reform, which eventually ends the influence of Qing dynasty.
What is XU?
Trying to do sth useful is very much different from crying for pains or suffering. You either save their soul or fill their stomach. If you can not then keep quiet

W: hence everybody keeps their mouth shut and let others soul lost and care about their own stomach.

M: I would choose to quietly sponsor one or two kids who need help;

Or the way like you did to donate some blood.

Speaking sth useless is worse than useless…Can he help create jobs for the hundreds of YIWu MBAs

We are human being we everybody needs to survive, especially in the bear market.

I think he can write sth, but please do not mark him a title like “Writer”… To me, this is the joke.

Yes, stomach is the first priority, if I also put you or Xu in hungery for 1-2 weeks, I would bet 1000HKD that you want food before you want a book

Just Cut the Crap.

W:The purpose of education is the topic. If all we ask for from the best of the youth is the ability to feed their own stomach, it's a social tragedy.

University is not a food camp.

You want to make money, open a shop online or do whatever you want.

Nobody said stomach is not priority, so saying the obvious is useless

M: What is end purpose of education for?

Make a living first and make the society better later.

At the end of day, MBA program is teaching what YiWu is just doing… Whatever from Harvard, or Guang Hua or Yiwu…Young students in Yiwu are real practitioners, not those who can afford to listen to paper case studies…

I think the key is If you can not make a living, then the school should teach you how to make a living, other wise you find a way out…

Xu graduated from Beijing University….Now here comes sth funny: 1) if Xu said BJU does not know how to educate young students, then can I say BJU failed? Xu and many others who can make a good life because of BJU and now know how to critic the society seems the program works well;

If BJU is successful, how their graduates can can not create the jobs for others who need help, meanwhile claiming we need a better society.

Please put your foot on the ground. If a school can not help/teach students fill their stomach, then teaching Shakespeare is BIG JOKE.

Xu does not like sb in BJU to be filled with too much academics, and he also dislike those poor student or maybe “Less-smart” students (vs BJU) in Yi WU to make life easier

What his suggestions on Chinese Education Reform? He has nothing, but only craps... please cut the Crap.

From what i know, both realities are true:

1. many(perhaps majority) college students can't even find a job

2. those "elites" who should be thinking about bigger questions are not

lastly, 你也應該誓死捍衛許知遠說話的權利

M: I never say he does not have the right to speak

But I am only thinking he wastes my times (or maybe yours) too much by being criticizing sth for years, but never coming out with sth more useful…

So please name him a CRITIC but not WRITER
