--- I do understand the author's thought and I have no problem with his choices. What I disagree is some people are NOT focusing on 那段曆史, they deny the fact that China has changed. They use 那段曆史 to 妖魔化 today's China. As a Chinese I disagree and I have the right to express my opinion.
--- Please don't tell me what I should or should not do. This is a free speech country. Free speech is the No.1 this author and his supporters struggle for. If you don't understand this, you better not come to this forum.
--- Very good point. We all know there was such poem:
The door for human is locked tightly,
The hole for dog is wide open,
A loud voice roaming: Crawl out, I give you freedom.
...
The author was a man who broke the door and he got the freedom. But today we also have some Fujian people crawling out from the dog hole and they claim it is because they don't have freedom. We have to distinguish them.
They are still equal but I don't think the second one deserves my respect.

It is very funny that when I expressed some different opinions, immediately some readers start vicious verbal attack on me, some of them use abusive and profane words.
I would like to ask these readers --- If you advocate the freedom spirit of this heaven country, then why did you act like an angry and mad animal that wants to bite ? Why can't you allow others to give their ideas ? They don't realize that they themselves have already absorded lot of the negative things from that era.

reader, so you think leaving China means "做婊子", Saying something good about China means "立牌坊". Now I can understand why you insist on being "做婊子".
iamhereforfun2 發表評論於
It is fact that the Chinese government made huge mistakes in that era and nobody denies it. We all know that history and know there are people who had the same experience as the autor had.
It appears some people respond as if they never know such history, then I have to question such readers how much knowledge they have about the recent Chinese history.
It is good to remember history, but it is shame that some readers use other people's personal tragic experience to launch their own vicious attack on today's government. If you have hatred on the government speak out your facts and your experience. Don't use something happened 40 years ago as "evidence" to support your attack.

I told you I came here for graduate study. When I just came to this country I also imagined it is a true free and nice country. But the reality told me we, as minority, can never gain the truly equal opportunities and dignity as white men can. We can fight hard but we have to admit it is almost impossible. I have high education and decent income, if I feel this way I don't know how the average Chinese immigrants feel differently. I know some people keep claiming they are living in "heaven", but that's either bogus or they have a too low standard or expectation..

There is not a true free sky in this world. You just flight off one zoo and into another zoo. It appears to be much better in the beginning but when time goes by you will see the rain and thunderstorm...

I came from China to the USA 20 years ago for my graduate study. Of course I didn't have the experience the author had because I got scholarship and everything was smooth. I don't want to comment on the author's choice at that time as it is his choice. What I want to address is --- China is not as miserable as some people talked and the USA or Hong Kong (I have lived in both places) is not as good as some people talked. I don't want to talk too much details here because it can take me two days...
Paying more attention to today's China and don't live in the shadow of yesterday.
It is true you have more free speech freedom in this country but don't think you get everything and you are the real "citizen" of this country. You can never get the real "citizen" dignity and you can never gain true "respect" from the white majority in this country. You can deny but you will NEVER get it.

回複iamhereforfun2的評論: Your point of view is very interesting. The animals in the zoo usually have enough food to eat and comfortable cage to shelter in, are they happy? I don't think so. I think their life is miserable. Look at the birds fly freely in the open sky: even if sometimes they don't have enough food, I think, they are more happy than in the zoo!

I don't think your life would be misarable if you stayed in China. China has changed dramatically after 1976. Check out how their lives are in Canton and other places and you will see. Actually lot of people like you are moving back to China. The world is changing and china is changing.
