SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. - The identification of the woman who died after a fall while climbing Mount Shasta on Monday has been released.
The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said 32-year-old Jillian Webster of Redmond, Oregon, was pronounced dead at the hospital. She was a guide with the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center.
The incident was first reported at 8:35 a.m. in an area above Helen Lake. Deputies said two climbers and Webster were tethered together and ascending the mountain when one of the climbers lost their footing, causing all three of them to fall.
They slid on snow and ice about 1,500 to 2,500 vertical feet down the mountain, deputies said.
