Co-Founder of APAPA
CC Yin photoThe Story of CC and Regina Yin
CC and Regina Yin are established entrepreneurs with a heart for serving the community. The Yins are the owners of twenty McDonald's restaurants. To many, this might seem to be quite an achievement by itself. However, CC and Regina are also recognized as active community and civic leaders. CC is actively involved in a number of organizations and institutions such as the Vacaville Rotary Club, the Vacaville Counter Force program, his local NAACP chapter, and local schools as well as other educational programs. He serves as president of the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce and is active in the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce. Besides being one of the founders of APAPA, he is also a co-founder of the Solano County Chinese-American Association.
Born in Chengdu, China, CC Yin grew up during times of upheaval and distress. This was during the time of the Second World War. After seeking refuge in Taiwan for a number of years, CC Yin arrived to the US in 1964 and attended the University of Washington, where he earned his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. He also met Regina at the university. The two were married two years later. CC and Regina have been working as a team ever since. They have three lovely daughters: Mary, Betty, and Carol. CC worked as an engineer for companies like Bechtel and Fluor Corporation until 1984.
While working as an engineer, CC dreamed of owning a McDonald's restaurant. An associate suggested that CC should consider broadening his career horizons by operating his very own McDonald's. "My colleague said, `You can own this,' and I said, `Can I?'" recounts CC, who remembers that realization hitting him like a ton of Big Macs. "To know that I, as an immigrant or naturalized citizen, can do that.... Where I come from you stick with one career." CC did his research and decided to take the plunge.
Getting started was difficult because they were among one of the first Chinese-Americans to apply for a McDonald's franchise. However, CC did not give up. Finally, in 1984, CC and Regina were offered the McDonald's in Oakland. Although it was not in the best neighborhood, CC and Regina managed to improve not only the business, but also the neighborhood as well. After opening four more McDonald's in Oakland, they decided to sell them and bought four other units in the City of Solano. Currently, CC and Regina’s twenty McDonald's retaurants are located in both Solano and Yolo counties.
CC's has based his community involvement on an old motto of McDonald's Corporation, which is to reinvest in the community one lives and raises their children. Therefore, CC and Regina picked Vacaville as both their home and location for their business office. They felt that the community and living environment around Vacaville suited them well. Right away, CC got involved with the Vacaville community. When the Asian programming KTSF Channel 26 was in jeopardy of being cancelled in Vacaville, CC immediately came forward and organized an effort to save Channel 26 from the dust bin. CC was instrumental in the successful campaign to save the station.
In 2001, CC and like-minded leaders established the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA). Today, thanks in large part to CC and Regina Yin, APAPA is growing rapidly in members and influence. CC and Regina remain committed to supporting and empowering the API community. CC and Regina have demonstrated that their energy, optimism, and generous spirit can accomplish much. They have each received many honors and awards--too numerous to list here. “Together,” says CC, “our dream of becoming a part of the community we live and work in has come true, and we feel very happy that our involvement within our community has made it a better place for all to live in. What else can a man hope and strive for?” CC and Regina are the heart and soul of APAPA. We, the APAPA Board, are proud to call them dear and honored friends.
