bottom line is that the good people must have access to guns, as a deterrant to the thugs.
as long as there are government regulations that make things illegal, guns will be available to the bad guys... here is what I mean.
e.g. by making the drugs illegal, government has in fact become the best PARTNER for the drug cartels, as the government has eliminated all the small competitors of the cartels and made sure only the cartels can afford the infrastructure to produce, transport and distribute drugs... and all this process has to be supported by force (including firearms).
it's a fairy tale to think that by a complete gun ban, you can take the guns away from the criminals.
