Call ATT or sprint or Verizon to lock the phone forever

Each phone has individual IMEI number, once recorded, the phone can't be used on the registered carrier forever. It is also called "clear ESN" in sprint phones.

Don't know if IMEI can be changed.

However, from the fact that many China's cell phone use one IMEI for cheap, any phones can be used in China.
