A bit extreme, but not uncommon

You need to work with the processor directly at this stage to speed things up and to minimize the chance of mis-communications. Loan broker is useless once you have established the contact with the processor at the lender side.

The industry works like this:

Front desk - broker, loan consultant (sales side) - get your loan app submitted and they are DONE.

Back office - processor (this is the deepest level you can reach. You usually don't get to speak to underwriter directly)

Approver - underwriter

Investor - who actually provides the loan (sometimes external, sometimes internal within the bank).

Your broker should not be playing tricks as he would gain from closing the deal. However, looks like he may not be very effective communicating with the backend. That's the very reason that you need to take over yourself.
